I decided to take this capstone project because it sounded like something I would enjoy doing since it would allow me to learn and utilize topics that I am passionate about.

My initial ideas for my capstone are:

- Agricultural algorithm which is basically something that determines the most efficient way to grow crops given a set of conditions such as the type of crops, area of the plot of land, and soil conditions.

I believe that my passion about this capstone project will be crucial to my success. One of the reasons is because if I am not passionate about it, then I won't try that hard which would most likely end up as me failing. Failure has been important to my learning when I am not really interested in something and I don't put much effort into it and often leave it for the last minute. I do not do my best. Also, when my anxiety overwhelms I don't do what I am supposed to do. I am learning how to manage my anxiety and keep myself doing what I am supposed to do. I have also learned that it is okay to feel overwhelmed or anxious, but I just cannot let it control me. This is like Leslie Odom when he said he didn't do anything for himself when he was depressed, but he explained how his father told him that he had to do things for himself even when they didn't seem exciting at the moment. There has not been a particularly powerful failure in my life that taught me something important.

My first idea is about agriculture and growing crops efficiently. What I like about this idea is that it would benefit millions of people who don't have a lot of land to grow food on. My second idea is on facial recognition for signing into school. I like this idea because it would make signing in at breakfast so much easier and quicker. My third idea is about a program that helps students learn how to solve math word problems. I like this idea because it would be helpful to many students who have trouble with solving word problems. My fourth idea is to create a program that optimizes the amount of energy solar panels receive by changing their direction.

Blog # 4:

This week I asked my peers what they thought of my ideas for Capstone Project. I explained all three of my ideas and then asked them to fill out the Peer Feedback Forms. However, after I explained the 3 project ideas, 2 of them were not popular because they have already been done. The one that was popular was the agriculture idea. Some of the issues my peers though of concerning this idea was getting accurate test results given the current seasons, and that it might be on a too small of an area to grow crops on. So what I have decided to do is the agriculture idea

So what I am going to focus on is:

1) Finding the top most nutritious crops.

2) Find the most cost effective crops

3) I propose to use the Marvelwood Garden as a prototype.

4) How climate change is affecting the agricultural industry.

5) Methods on growing more food effectively on a small area of land.

Blog # 5:

Write about your mentor.  Who is this person? Ms. Winter, who is a gardener at the Marvelwood school. How do you meet? At community service on Wednesdays. What do you hope your mentor will do to advise you? Nothing.  Why is this person a good mentor for you in this project? She is an experienced gardener. I also have emailed Ms. Winter about my capstone project and asked her to be my mentor.

Blog #6:

Write about your time management plan. What do you want to have done by the time you leave for spring break in March. Nothing.  What are you most worried about completing? Nothing. What will be the most difficult part of managing your own time? Doing nothing.

Blog #7:

Reflect on the status and the process of your Capstone project.  What have you learned so far? That dark green vegetables and root vegetables are cold resistant and nutritious. What is the status of your project? Research. What are your short term goals? To try and do as little as possible.

Blog #8:

I made a plan to try and do something each day. So I decided to make a plan book of some sort where I write something that I will do the next day during Capstone. So far it has been pretty successful. I finally have a mentor for my Capstone. I read some articles on agriculture and climate change and took note of the important details.

Spring Blog #1:

Over Spring Break I started my Powerpoint for my capstone project. I moved my information from my planner to the powerpoint. I tried to set up different categories for my powerpoint. I think I have done all the research I needed. This week I looked up about the most nutritious plants. Next week is to talk to Mrs. Winter and come up with a plan for a community garden. I need to come up with a garden plan, come up with specific details on how to be effective, maybe a drawing, and finally edit and work on the powerpoint presentation such as write my bibliography.
